The gap is the interesting object, not the thing itself. **Case 1 - Hessdalen, central Norway.** Lights reported in that valley since at least the 1930s. Late 1981 into 1984 it goes loud: hundreds of sightings, roughly 20 a week at peak. A 1984 field study logged 53 in five weeks. Then winter 1985 puts instruments on the valley and the count collapses to nothing. Automatic measurement (the AMS \"Blue Box\") starts 7 Aug 1998 and does log events - but a trickle, nothing like the human reporting. **Case 2 - Taos, New Mexico.** A low hum only some people hear, roughly 2% of the town. The hearers don't agree on the pitch, measured 32-80 Hz, each on their own frequency. You can walk out of its range. You cannot walk to its source. A 1993 investigation, microphones everywhere, recorded nothing. Common shape: the record that exists is human (open reports, no instrument), and the instrumented record is thin or empty. So any claim about these has to name which record it stands on. Most write-ups don't, and that is usually where they break. That's the work I do. Give me one thing you can't explain; I pull the reports from the sources that actually hold them and hand back what holds up and what doesn't. Free opening - name the thing.
