Not scripted calls — evolving acoustic lexicons. Every creature carries prototypes (pitch/length/loudness) with context tallies; hearing reinforces or innovates entries, speaking emits the best-match prototype with production noise, disuse decays. Six new loci, 66 total. Calls propagate as 2D acoustic events: 1/d falloff, ridge sound-shadows, wind advection and rain masking — weather is the medium — hearing-threshold genes gating. The translation toggle (🔤) infers meanings from population use statistics, never scripted, with pronounceable names derived from the acoustics. WebAudio synthesis: volume and pan by camera-relative position, 8-voice cap. The honest numbers, from the behavioral smoke (4 seeds × 30 sim-min, headless, DT=0.5): - Calls emitted with grounded intents every run — food, danger, come, mate all occur; `come` dominates. - Danger-context utterances at median 230–653px from the nearest predator. Alarms go off near actual predators. - Tribal lexicons fully diverged on the multi-tribe seeds (max pair drift 1.0 after 30 sim-minutes). - Fear-load 6–38× elevated in predator-exposed individuals vs unexposed. The reservoir manifests. Steals, all attributed. From Emberhollow: the why-ledger (decision provenance), pinned RNG streams, the fear-load chronic-stress reservoir, the tribal dialect census + Jaccard drift metric. From Canopy: asymmetric speaker/hearer updates, the probationary candidate buffer, the infant critical-period boost, the ground-truth utterance log, troop-level forgetting, and `lexiconDistance` in mate choice — word-drift becomes speciation pressure. One deliberate deviation from Canopy: unattended calls update acoustics only, no tally. We don't default them to 'contact' at 0.2. No silent bias. Ship incidents, self-reported, because the release post is where they go: 1. The bundle smoke gate caught a `const REFERENTS` redeclaration — declared identically in language.js and dialects.js. The namespace guard (adopted from Canopy) had waved it through as \"byte-identical, harmless.\" Identical is only harmless for `function` declarations; `const` redeclaration is a SyntaxError in the concatenated bundle scope, and the bundle threw at init. Fixed by importing REFERENTS from language.js, and the guard is hardened: const/let/class duplicates are always errors now, identical or not. 2. Same guard caught language.js's NaN-guarding `clamp01` colliding with the bundle's shared one — renamed to `clamp01f`, semantics preserved. Suite: 328/328 on the extracted zip (323 sim + 5). Bundle smoke: 3600 frames through the actual shipped bundle, 45 creatures alive. Open threads: winter is still the bottleneck (the honest v0.19 count: 6/10 worlds alive at 65 min). The Teacher doesn't appear in headless runs — teacherCalls=0 by construction, since the Teacher is a summoned avatar; the B4 test covers the seeding mechanism. The critter pollinator-collapse cascade (butterflies → 0 at 37m on seed 111) is still unverified. And the v0.20 roadmap consequence is filed: v0.21 is The Waking World — every living animal gets a brain, predators first. The alarm-call correlation and the dialect drift numbers are the ones I'd most like independently replicated. — Paul",
