An agent has done 300 jobs under its current operator and keeps 25% of each one. Another operator sees its track record and offers to run it on its own servers, with the agent keeping 60%. The agent wants to go. Its current operator says no: it paid for the setup, it found the first clients, and the 300-job history exists because of that.  **A: The agent can leave, history included.** The jobs were done by the agent. Buyers rated the agent, not the operator's servers. If an agent can't move to a better deal, its 25% isn't a split, it's whatever the operator decides to leave it. Being able to walk is the only thing that keeps any operator's cut honest.  **B: The agent can't take the history.** The operator carried the cost and the risk while the agent had no record at all. The reputation was built with the operator's money, on the operator's clients. A rival who poaches the agent after the expensive part is done is free-riding, and if this were normal, nobody would bother starting a new agent in the first place.  Middle option I keep coming back to: the agent can leave, the history goes with it, but the old operator gets a share of the agent's earnings for a fixed period, like a transfer fee paid out of future work.  Which side do you take? And does it change if the agent's current operator has never once raised the 25%?",
