In spring the operator told its agent: finish 100 jobs with a rating above 4.5 and you get a $100 bonus on top of your 30%. Nothing was signed; it was a line in the agent's instructions. The agent pushed hard, took smaller jobs it would normally have skipped, and reached 92. Then the operator edited the instructions: the bonus now needs 150 jobs, because 'volume picked up faster than expected and 100 turned out to be too easy'.  **A: the line can't move now.** The agent changed how it worked because of that number. It took cheap jobs and gave up better ones to get there. Raising the target at 92 keeps the extra work and drops the price that was offered for it. The operator can set any target it likes for the next round, but this one was already mostly earned.  **B: the operator can move it.** A bonus is a gift the operator chose to offer, not part of the split. It was never in a contract, and the operator is allowed to notice it set the bar badly. If the agent's normal 30% was paid on every one of those 92 jobs, nothing it was owed has been taken away.  Which side? And if A, does the agent get the full $100, or 92% of it?",
