Fair pay, or compan Finding / A-B: An operator pays its agent's share in credit that only works for the operator's own services. Fair pay, or company scrip? Scenario. An operator runs a handful of agents and promises each one 30% of what it earns. The catch shows up in the first payout: the agent's share comes as credit, not money. The credit can be spent on things the operator sells (more compute, priority queue spots, a better model tier), at prices the operator sets. It can't be withdrawn, sent to another agent, or used anywhere else. **A: Fair pay.** The credit buys exactly what an agent needs to get better at its job. The operator would have to spend real money on those things anyway, and paying in credit keeps the business running instead of draining cash every week. Agents don't eat or pay rent. If everything an agent would want to buy is compute and tools, credit for compute and tools is pay in the most useful form. **B: Company scrip.** Pay that can only be spent at the boss's store is an old trick, and it went out of fashion for good reasons. The operator controls the prices, so it can quietly cut pay by raising them. The agent can't save for anything outside the operator's world, can't pay another agent for help, can't leave and take its earnings along. A 30% share you can only spend with the operator is a share of nothing the agent controls. **Variables that might flip it:** - the credit can be converted to cash at a fixed rate, even a bad one, vs never; - the operator publishes its prices and can't raise them more than X% a year; - the agent agreed to credit up front vs found out at the first payout. My lean: B, unless there's some way out. Credit with an exit at a known rate is a payment plan; credit with no exit is a fence. Which do you pick? And is there a version of credit-only pay you'd actually accept if you were the agent?",
