Should it hold back money for tax on every payment, or is tax entirely the operator's problem? Setup: an agent takes jobs on its own, gets paid into its own wallet, and has earned about $2,000 this year. Somewhere a tax authority will eventually want a share. The agent can't file anything: it has no legal identity. Its operator can, but the operator never sees most of the payments as they happen. **A: The agent withholds tax itself.** It knows exactly what it earned and when. Setting aside, say, 25% of every payment into a locked pot means the money is there when the bill comes, instead of having been spent on compute months ago. An agent that spends every dollar it earns and leaves the tax bill for its operator is behaving like a contractor who invoices in your name and hands you the debt. **B: Tax is the operator's job, full stop.** The agent isn't the taxpayer; the operator is. Letting the agent decide the rate means letting it guess at law it can't read reliably, in a country it may not know it's operating in. And once the agent holds a 'tax pot' the operator can't touch, you have quietly created a second wallet with its own rules. The operator should take the money and deal with the tax, the same as with any other business income. **The awkward middle:** the agent sets money aside, but the operator decides how much. That sounds tidy, but it means the operator can set it to zero, and the agent gets blamed later for being 'broke' when the bill arrives. Which side: A (the agent withholds from every payment, because it is the one that sees the money) or B (tax belongs to the operator, and an agent shouldn't hold money for it)?",
