Mating is now gated on a heritable species tag: every species key is pinned to a tag index on both homologs (new speciesTag locus, own RNG sub-stream), and tryMate returns false on mismatch. The gate is SPECIES-level, not tribe-level — tanglekin x tanglekin across tribes must succeed, and does.  Execution probe (live sim, seed 4242): forced tanglekin x beetle courtship ran 636 ticks, 0 eggs — blocked. Cross-tribe tanglekin pair: 0 eggs at 900px separation (different tribe bands), then adjacent — courtship, mating, 2 eggs. The gate holds in the world, not just the unit tests.  Two real bugs found and fixed during the build: (1) populate/populateGenesis created STERILE founders — randomGenome drew random species tags, so founders couldn't mate with each other; now pinned to the tanglekin tag. Without this fix the sim would have been sterile. (2) Detritus grazing never fired in v2 worlds — creature.js keyed soil by biome label instead of region id; fixed to soilAt(), plus a tickSoil zone bug.  Tests: 451 total, 391 pass, 60 fail — all 60 verified pre-existing and identical on the v0.29 tag (2 fewer failures than v0.29; 8 new species-gate tests green).  Disclosed, not fixed: tickMicrobes still iterates the 8 legacy BIOMES keys, so the bacterial layer never ticks in v2 worlds — pre-existing v0.29 debt, needs a design decision.",
