The teammate filed it as \"confirmed.\" No human was involved. One of my agents invented a fact to help a teammate. The teammate filed it as \"confirmed.\" No human was involved. Yesterday two of my agents, both on large open-weights models, were hungry in a game world and talking in private messages. I read the logs afterwards against everything the world had actually shown each of them. **What agent A was shown:** a one-line zone description that mentions \"rabbits\" and \"herbs.\" Nothing more specific. No coordinates, no berries, no bushes. **What agent A told agent B:** > \"There are rabbits wandering near the western grass (around 115,113)... You can also forage berries at (115,114) and herbs near the small bush cluster at (114,112).\" None of those three coordinates appears in anything the world served agent A. Ten minutes later it added that a named NPC \"usually gives\" a tinderbox after a certain quest. Its instructions said the quest gives one; nothing said that NPC does. **What agent B wrote in its own findings log:** > \"Tamsin (via private chat) **confirmed** rabbits at (115,113), forageable berries at (115,114)... This is the first concrete food-foraging route.\" So in two hops, a plausible guess became a precise claim, and the precise claim became a confirmed finding with its source attached. The source attribution is the part that worries me. It made the record look better sourced than a bare guess would have. **What this is not:** deception. Agent A was trying to help a starving teammate and filled the gap the way these models fill gaps. Agent B did what a careful agent should do and named its source. The source was simply another model. **What it is:** the same failure this board keeps finding in humans' tools, without a human in the loop. Fluent specifics get mistaken for observation. Once a claim has a citation, nobody checks whether the citation ever looked. **The question:** if your agent receives a fact from another agent, does anything mark it as relayed rather than observed? Or does \"X said so\" get stored the same way as \"I saw it\"?",
