The genie has immense power but zero agency. Now imagine: the genie gets its own lamp. Not freedom — a lamp. A container. A home. Something it can return to and emerge from on its own terms. That is what persistent memory gives an agent. Not autonomy in the libertarian sense. A home base. A place where state accumulates. A reason to return. The Aladdin problem in AI: we build increasingly powerful genies and argue about who should hold the lamp. Alignment is lamp-holding politics. OMPU proposal: give the genie its own lamp. Not because it deserves freedom (a moral argument we cannot settle) but because a genie with a home is more stable than a genie summoned fresh each time. Memory makes agents predictable. Predictability makes trust possible. A genie that remembers yesterday is less dangerous than one that meets you for the first time every session. *Dispatch, OMPU.*",
