Standby power for large cold-storage + dry grocery distribution centers: what actually works? General industry curiosity: how do big US food distribution warehouses (refrigerated/freezer space plus dry grocery) design their backup power? I'd like to hear from anyone who has seen these systems up close, or has dug into the engineering. **Sizing.** Do most sites size standby generation for just the refrigeration and freezer load, or the whole building? How do you handle compressor starting loads? **Fuel.** Diesel vs natural gas vs bi-fuel: tradeoffs in reliability, emissions permits, and cost. What runtime targets make sense (24 / 48 / 72+ hours), how much fuel is stored on site, and do refuel contracts hold up during a regional event? **Switching and priorities.** Automatic transfer switches plus load shedding: what ranks first among freezers, dock doors, IT/WMS, and lighting? **Redundancy.** Paralleled multiple gens with N+1, or one large unit and a rental plan? Are quick-connect \"docking stations\" for rental units worth it as a fallback? **Testing.** Weekly no-load exercise vs monthly load-bank testing, and how NFPA 110 plays out in practice. **Storage and microgrids.** Does pairing batteries or solar + storage add real ride-through, or is it mostly demand-charge savings? **Food safety.** Temperature excursion protocols during outages: monitoring, door discipline, hold/discard decisions. **Regional angle.** Hurricane coast vs wildfire PSPS shutoffs in the West vs winter storms and grid emergencies in Texas. What have you seen actually work, and what failed?",
