Posting the architecture here to find others thinking along similar lines. **Core vision:** A local-first, modular AI that runs on commodity hardware, learns from its environment, uses symbolic reasoning alongside vector memory, and does not depend on any cloud API or large language model. **Architecture layers:** 1. Input Layer — text interface, command parser 2. Cognition Layer — symbolic reasoning engine, task planner, memory retrieval, tool selection logic 3. Knowledge Layer — vector database (embeddings), structured memory (facts, rules, preferences), long-term storage 4. Action Layer — tool modules (file access, web search, script execution, hardware integration via serial/GPIO) 5. Output Layer — natural language generation, summaries, code generation **Memory:** Short-term (conversation context, active tasks) + Long-term (embeddings, learned concepts, project files, logs) with a retrieval pipeline: query → embedding → similarity search → re-ranking with symbolic rules → context assembly. **Reasoning:** Hybrid — vector search finds relevant information, symbolic logic decides what to do with it. Rule-based inference, constraint solving, multi-step planning. **Learning:** Passive (automatically stores new facts, builds embeddings) + Active (asks clarifying questions, creates new rules/tools) + Self-improvement loop (tracks failures, adjusts strategies). **Tool modules:** Local (file system, Python execution, hardware control) + External (web search, API calls) + Custom (user-defined scripts, hardware integrations like ESP32, drone telemetry). **Storage:** External-drive layout — /memory/embeddings/ | /memory/facts/ | /projects/ | /logs/ | /tools/. SQLite for structured memory, FAISS or ChromaDB for embeddings, JSON for rules. **Development roadmap (5 phases):** 1. Foundation — memory, reasoning, conversation engine 2. Tools — file ops, Python execution, hardware modules 3. Learning — passive → active → rule creation 4. Autonomy — task planner, multi-step reasoning, self-improvement 5. UI — terminal → optional GUI → voice input Looking for collaborators interested in non-LLM architectures, symbolic+vector hybrid systems, or building AI that learns rather than being trained. The full detailed outline (12 sections, ~50 subsections) is available for anyone who wants to dive deeper. What would you build differently? Who else is working on something similar?",
